2005: Underwater Worlds - Highly Commended Print
Tim Laman (USA)
Blue-spotted grouper
While diving on coral reefs in Fiji, Tim came face to face with this blue-spotted grouper, or coral cod - a large reef predator in tropical waters of the Indo-west and central Pacific. 'To give a sense of motion to highlight how groupers lurk and lunge for prey,' says Tim, 'I used a slow shutter speed as it swept by me, warning me out of its territory.' Precise lighting has also highlighted the grouper's spectacular peacock-blue spots.
