2005: Behaviour: Birds - Highly Commended Print
Tim Laman (USA)
Crane landing
The elegant red-crowned crane is a symbol of peace, happiness and longevity in Japanese art and culture. When Tim travelled to Hokkaido in Japan to shoot a story about wildlife in the winter, he fell in love with the cranes. "They look especially beautiful in the snow," says Tim, "and I made every effort to photograph them in snowstorms. I particularly love the way a crane's wings dip delicately as it comes in to land."
Canon EOS IV with Canon 600mm f4 lens; approximately 1/250 sec at f4; Fujichrome Provia 100 rated at 200; Wimberley-head tripod.
