Animal Portraits - Highly Commended
Sergey Gorshkov (Russia)
Wild, wild wolverine
Fleeting glimpses and tracks were all that Sergey had ever seen of wolverines during the six years that he worked in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula - that is, until five wolverines turned up close to his house. They arrived to feast on the carcass of a bear that had not survived the winter. 'At night, they climbed over my cabin and chewed my tripod and all the rubber off my snowmobile.' Two days later, the carcass had been picked clean and the wolverines had vanished. 'I'm certain I will never see so many in one place ever again,' says Sergey.
