(Claw of Baryonyx walkeri) Baryonyx means 'heavy claw'. Unusually for a carnivorous dinosaur we know it ate fish as scientists have found fish scales and teeth with its fossil where its stomach would have been.

Whale Hall closure

The Whale Hall is closed for refurbishment from 4 January until 26 March 2010. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Investigate centre

The Investigate centre in the Museum's basement will also be closed for gallery maintenance on the last Thursday of each month from 2.30pm, except when this falls in a school holiday. For full details please contact the Museum bookings office on +44 (0) 20 7942 5555.

In World War II the Museum was used as a secret base to develop new gadgets for allied spies, including an exploding rat!
