Gallery closure and specimen removal

Earth Today and Tomorrow will be closed from 13 April 2015 as we transform it into a new gallery about Human Evolution, opening in October, and a new shop, opening in August. During this period, some specimens in the Earth Hall port windows will be removed for safety. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Birds gallery refurbishment

To ease congestion, we are moving specimens and cases and creating new displays in the Birds gallery. The gallery is open and refurbishments should be completed by spring 2015.

The transformed gallery will continue to showcase favourites such as the dodo and Archaeopteryx models and the historic hummingbird cabinet.

Volcanoes and Earthquakes gallery closure

The gallery will be closed 20-24 April for essential updates. To see how Earth has been shaped by natural forces, visit Restless Surface on the same level.

Investigate centre

The Investigate centre in the Museum's basement is closed for gallery maintenance on the last Thursday of each month from 14.30, except when this falls in a school holiday. More details from the Museum bookings office on +44 (0) 20 7942 5555.
