The Natural History Museum plays a central role in generating and communicating knowledge across scientific and national boundaries. International cooperation is required to understand and tackle the issues that our planet faces. The Museum established an international foundation in 1990, which in 2001 became the American Friends of the Natural History Museum London. The foundation is run by a board of trustees and is a registered 501(c)3 organisation encouraging tax-deductible gifts under US law.
American Friends secures funding for Museum scientific research projects worldwide, such as the Encyclopedia of life project. Our scientists collaborate with colleagues on every continent, including those at the Smithsonian and the American Museum of Natural History. We encourage the sharing of perspectives and international expertise
