Module 5

Ordination (biometric) techniques in taxonomy

This module covers the theory and practice of a range of morphometric techniques:

  • principal components
  • discriminant methods
  • shape analysis

Various methods for collecting measurements, handling data and visualising results - including image analysis, landmark data and 3D reconstruction - are covered, and applications to species discrimination and identification and the analysis of environmentally induced variation are explored.

Duration: 2 weeks

Module 6: Introduction to taxonomic and systematic principles
