This module involves sampling and identification exercises based at Silwood Park, near Ascot. Particular attention is paid to interpreting the quality of data obtained using different sampling strategies.
The analysis and interpretation of data obtained gives insights into the power and limitations of sampling programmes and helps students to design efficient systems of their own.
The effects of sampling on biodiversity estimates, cost-effectiveness, cumulative species aquisition data, and examination of the inter-relationship between size and species richness are explored.
