Research interests

  • The history of natural history collecting, especially with regard to the Challenger Voyage and Hans Sloane’s Materia Medica and Vegetable Substances collections.
  • Development of the British Pharmacopoeia during the 17th and 18th Centuries.

Current activities

Professional responsibilities:

  • Developing and managing Access policies, particularly with regard to the Darwin Centre and providing an efficient advisory and information service for both external and internal customers.
  • Arranging and delivering presentations and tours for museum professionals and other client groups.
  • Co-ordinating activities within the areas of the Darwin Centre which are accessed by the public.
  • Advising on and arranging loans of material for exhibitions in other organisations

Current and ongoing projects:

  • Broadening access to the national collection for target groups including professional artists and provision for visitors with disabilities.
  • Creating a series of presentations for Darwin Centre Live based on the history of collecting.
