Zoology Building, Tillydrone Avenue, Aberdeen, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
The museum’s displays are worldwide in scope, from protozoa to the great whales, including taxidermy, skeletal material, study skins, fluid-preserved specimens and models.
The largest zoological collection in the north of Scotland. The University of Aberdeen was formed in 1860 by the fusion of two ancient universities, Kings’ College in Old Aberdeen and Marischal College in New Aberdeen. Both colleges accumulated collections from the earliest 1700s (and probably before that) until their separate natural history museums came together at Marischal College in 1860 as the new University’s Natural History Museum. The collections are wide-ranging and include donations from former graduates stationed abroad. The emphasis was heavily on teaching rather than research or public display until into the 20th century. The museum was relocated to the new Zoology building in Old Aberdeen in 1970.
