Dear Bates2

I heard last night from Robinson that you are duly elected to the Post at the Royal Geog[raphical Society]. I most heartily congratulate you on it, I hope you nicely keep it many years & not find it very hard work.

Do not forget to send me two or three tickets for your lecture at the Horticultural [Society].

There is a proposal of an [[2]] Entomological dinner at Mrs Saunders this year. A meeting will be held at the Societys Rooms on Monday at 4.pm. Can you come?

Yours very truly | Alfred R Wallace [signature]

H. W. Bates Esq.

1. "1863 or 64?" appears to be a later addition written in pencil

2. Henry Walter Bates (1825-1892), English naturalist and explorer
