Parkstone, Dorset.

May 14th. 18911

Edward Westermarck Esq.2

My dear Sir

I return you the last proof. I have made one or two verbal suggestions, -- especially ''marriage'' in place of ''sexual intercourse'' because this last chapter will be the most read, and it is well to be as reticent as possible.

I enclose also a ''Prefatory note'', which I suppose is something of the kind that you & Messrs Macmillan3 wish for.

Yours very truly │ Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
