LORD CHAMBERLAIN’S OFFICE

ST JAMES’S PALACE, S.W

1st December 1908

Sir,

I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25th ultimot which has been submitted to the king, and to inform you that His Majesty has been graciously pleased, under the special circumstances of your case, to dispense with your personal Investiture with the insignia of the Order of Merit.

I shall be shortly in a position to inform you of the manner in which your Grant of Dignity and the Insignia of the Order will be conveyed to you
