Corfe View,

Sept[tembe]r. 1st. 1891

W. Sheomring Esq.

Dear Sir

I reply to yours of Aug[ust]. 29. I beg to say that the subjects for your course of lectures are outside of my special studies and I could not prepare one without much time & labour. Besides this, I have almost entirely given up lecturing, finding it better to do what work I can at home.

Yours faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace -- [signature].

1. To the left of Wallace’s signature, someone has written, on two lines, "Wallace £5".
