Notes

131 records

Although this is one of the more frequently occurring species in the genus, it is rare for more than one or two specimens to be collected in a sample that has filtered >1000m3. So if samples are fractioned before being sorted, there is a good chance the species will be missed. Its known latitudinal range is 31°S to 60°N, but most records are from the subtropics. Müller (1906) did not place this species in any of his groups, but Skogsberg (1920) suggested that G. gaussi and G. incisa should be members of the ‘gaussi’ group of species in Conchoecia. Poulsen (1973) proposed the genus Gaussicia, in which he included G. edentate, but failed to designate a type species. Gooday (1976) when he redescribed the members of the group retained them temporarily in Its bathymetric range is mostly 500-1500m, but it has been caught as shallow as 100m.
