Notes

1 record

This species is one of the few members of the genus that occur at shelf and continental slope depths. It is only known from its type locality on the shelf in the Gulf of Guinea. It is similar in appearance to subrufa, having a carapace that is scaly in appearance and is covered with fine pits. There is a short blunt spine at the posterior dorsal corner of the right hand carapace valve and the main carapace glands open at the base of slots on the ends of symmetrically placed tubercles about a quarter of the height down the posterior margin. This is one of the shallowest living of all Bathyconchoecia species, the majority of which are either abyssopelagic or benthopelagic. The 18 species currently assigned to the genus make a highly heterogeneous assemblage and the genus is in need of revision.
