Molecular biology committee

The Molecular biology committee (MBC) meets monthly and aims to:

  • Support the Molecular Laboratory Managers to develop and manage the Molecular Biology Laboratories.

  • Provide an interface to support interactions between Molecular Biology Managers and Researchers.

  • Support the interactions of the Molecular Biology Labs and Life Science Departments / Science Executive.

Who is on the MBC?

The MBC is made up of senior staff from the labs and a researcher from each life science department. Current members of the MBC are:

Researchers are appointed to the MBC by the keeper of their department. The chair is appointed by the science executive.

What is the role of the MBC?
  • To act as an effective laboratory user group, in order to ensure the smooth-running of a first class facility for molecular research and collections.
  • To undertake strategic planning to recommend to the Science Executive the development of molecular facilities based on technological and theoretical advances.
  • Allocate time of Molecular Biology Research Support taking into account:
    • 5 year research plans
    • Paying visitors
    • External funding
    • All new “starters” (staff, visitors or students)
    • Approved internal molecular funding
    • Assess bids for additional molecular funds in terms of:
      • Feasibility
      • Scientific impact
      • NHM scientific objectives
      • Newly appointed staff
