The Earth Sciences Library collections at The Natural History Museum.
We ask that you provide 48 hours notice (two working days) when requesting items, to ensure they are collected and awaiting your arrival.
Find your items
Our online catalogues are the place to start if you know the type of material you are looking for. If you have a more general interest we can assist in your search.
Make an appointment
When you’re ready, please email your list of items to the Library along with the date and time of your proposed visit.
Please note the most important information we require is:
- For books: title, author, call number/location
- For serials: title, date, volume, call number/location
Remember, you will need to bring identification and proof of address on your first visit, and complete our registration process.
Offsite collections
The majority of our entomology collections are held offsite along with selected low-demand titles from other collections. We need 48 hours to ensure they are retrieved in time for your visit.
The Ornithology and Rothschild collections are held offsite at the Natural History Museum at Tring, Hertfordshire. Please contact Tring Library to make an appointment to view items.
High volume requests
When requesting large amounts of items (more than 25), we ask that you provide as much notice as possible. Contact us in advance to discuss your requirements prior to sending requests.
