I am responsible for customer services in the Library so I ensure that all our users – including over 200 Museum staff involved in research and over 2000 members of the public per year – have a comfortable, friendly and successful visit.
My job covers areas such as: facilities in the reading room, enquiries, document delivery, our website, promotion and user education.
After studying philosophy at university I wanted to stay in the academic environment and this led to my first job in the customer services team at the School of Oriental and African Studies Library. This experience encouraged me to become a professional librarian so I moved on to Loughborough University to gain an MSc in Information and Library Studies.
My first professional post was as Reader Services Librarian at the English Faculty Library, Oxford University. I have been at the Natural History Museum Library since 2004 and continue to specialise in people rather than books!
