Hear Richard describe his first day at the Museum.
More about Starting at the MuseumSeeing snakes, lizards, geckos, and all manner of curious insects, were simply a matter of course for Richard during his childhood years in Australia and England. As a boy, he was often found collecting these animals and setting them free once he had finished observing their characteristics and behaviour.
Once at the Museum, Richard became a part of a team to develop new exhibitions that would excite the public. He decided for a break away from the traditional displays, towards exhibitions that would encourage visitors to see themselves as part of the natural world, rather than a mere spectator. This notion of immersing the visitor in the exhibition enabled a greater sense of exploration and self-discovery.
