More about Women in Science

Clare Valentine

Growing up in Burma fuelled Clare's interest in natural history, where she came face-to-face with snakes and scorpions, and swam with tropical fish.

Throughout her career, Clare has worked with the Women in Science committee which is dedicated to making the Museum a better place to work for female members of staff. Following the installation of this committee, many women now occupy senior roles, and Clare was among the first female members of staff to reach a senior position within her Department.

Clare has been responsible for the care, maintenance, enhancement, administration and provision of access to the estimated 28 million zoology specimens, which are stored across the Museum's 3 sites (South Kensington, Tring and the off-site store in south London) as well as long-term strategic planning.
