Images of large, unprepared samples

This image shows quartz and zeolite mineral crystals in a large, rough sample approximately 5mm wide.

The specimen was viewed in a low-pressure mode using high energy electrons scattered back from the sample surface.

Since no form of surface coating was used, the specimen was not damaged, and the original colour of the mineral was still visible after it was removed from the microscope.

This type of imaging is ideal for examining important specimens that need to be preserved.
