Analysis of minerals in polished sections
Finding minerals of interest in polished rock surfaces and quantitative analysis of their major element composition is a major application of the JEOL 5900LV. The instrument's energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) detector can rapidly provide the information necessary for mineral identification.
This example shows the imaging and analysis of a meteorite mineral. The EDX spectrum revealed that it had the chemical composition of a pyroxene.
