Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) skull

The goldcrest is Britain's smallest breeding bird, weighing in at only 5 or 6 grams - about the same as a 20 pence piece. Goldcrests also reach Britain as winter migrants from Scandinavia, flying directly across the North Sea despite their tiny size.

This example shows a micro-CT scan reconstruction of a specimen's skull.
