Eunice

Five occiptical tentacles. Tentacular cirri present. Branchiae present. Seatae include limbate, pectinate setae, compound falcigers and subacicular hooks.

The most recent revision of the genus is by Kristian Fauchald (1992) A review of the geus Eunice (Polychaeta: Eunicidae) based on type material. Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology, 523:422pp. Muira (1986) carried out a series of detailed studies on Eunice and Euniphysa concentrating on branchial distribution patterns. T. Miura (1986) Japanese polychaetes of the genera Eunice and Euniphysa: taxonomy and branchial distribution patterns. Publications of the Seto Marine Biological Laboratory, 31: 269-325.

p>Dounas. & Koukouras (1989) consider that E.indica is conspecific with E.vittata (delle Chiaje). This was based on a study of Mediterranean specimens. However, as there was no comparison with the type of E.indica, or analysis of IndoPacific populations, we consider that further analysis is needed before this synonomy can be accepted.
