When using the Dictionary of UK Species please follow the following terms and conditions:

1. By using this website you agree to be bound by both the Terms and Conditions for use of the Dictionary of UK species and The Natural History Museum Website User Terms and Conditions. If you access and use any of the wildlife data made available to you on this site, you do so subject to these conditions, along with any additional Specific Terms of Access that a data supplier may have imposed on its use. If you do not agree with these conditions, then please do not use this website.
2. The Trustees of the Natural History Museum reserve the right to change the conditions detailed in the Terms and Conditions for use of the Dictionary of UK species and The Natural History Museum Website User Terms and Conditions without prior notification, and at any time, so please read both documents whenever you use the website. In addition, suppliers of wildlife information may alter Specific Terms of Access for their data at any time and without notifying you, so please also remember to check the relevant metadata for the wildlife information that you intend to use.
3. You must not use or attempt to use any of the information on this site to deliberately cause damage to the natural environment.
4. All material, data and information on this website are protected by copyright, database rights and other intellectual property rights. You are permitted to read, copy, print and download parts of the material and information that you are able to access on this website for your private use or for use in the ordinary course of your business (provided that use is in accordance with these Terms and Conditions and any Specific Terms of Access identified by the data supplier).
5. Where details of the author or authors of a particular wildlife resource are given you must acknowledge their input in any derived information product or publication, whether printed, electronic or broadcast, that is based wholly or in part on that record.
6.  Data owners or suppliers may identify some parts of the wildlife data they supply as being environmentally sensitive in nature. Access to these sensitive aspects may be restricted using administration controls. Where you are granted access to environmentally sensitive information you must not disseminate, deliberately compromise or otherwise infringe the confidentiality of such information.
7. You may not make any financial profit from use of the wildlife data on this website or from any information products and material you derive without first obtaining written permission from the relevant data owner or supplier. Furthermore, you may not republish any of the data made available to you, or exploit it for commercial or academic research purposes without first obtaining written permission from the relevant data owner or supplier. Initial enquiries should be made to the Data Manager for the Dictionary of UK species (speciesdictionary@nhm.ac.uk).
8. Where materials and information on this website have been supplied by a third party, we do not control or endorse them in any way. All information and materials supplied by third parties are made available in good faith but we do not (to the extent allowed by the law) accept responsibility for their accuracy or use.
9. We try to ensure that any information and material on this website that has not been supplied by a third party is accurate, but we make no representation and give no warranty that any information or material is accurate, up to date or complete.
