Economic Background

The coffee harvest in El Salvador takes place once a year between November and February.

Coffee berries prior to the husk being removed and the berry dried.


For El Salvador Coffee:

  • Represents 3% of the country's GNP.
  • Generates between 30-50% of agricultural export earnings.
  • Supports 20,000 small coffee farms,which employ 134,000 people.

Worldwide coffee:

  • Is the second largest legal export commidity in the world.
  • Has an annual turnover of approximately $10 billion.
