Diagnostic Features	As for Clypeaster except with flat oral surface lacking an infundibulum; margin fairly sharp and test thin-plated. Also the anterior petal is wide open, but lateral and posterior petals are closed. No double wall internally around margin.
Distribution	Recent, Indian Ocean.

Type	Clypeaster annandalei Koehler, 1922, by original designation.
Species Included	Mortensen (1948) also included Clypeaster rarispinus de Meijere, 1902.
Classification and/or Status	Clypeasteroida; Clypeasterina; Clypeasteridae. Subjective junior synonym of Clypeaster Lamarck, 1801.
