Diagnosis

 Irregular echinoids with:

  • multiple ambulacral pores and tube feet associated with each ambulacral plate;
  • monobasal apical disc.
Range  Late Palaeocene to Recent; worldwide.
Remarks  Clypeasteroids are easily distinguished from their closest relatives the oligopygids, by having multiple microscopic pores to each ambulacral plate, usualy arranged in broad bands.
