Family Echinolampadidae Gray, 1851, p. 37

Diagnosis	Cassiduloids with: tests circular to ovate with flattened oral surface; apical disc monobasal or tetrabasal with genital plate 2 greatly enlarged; ambulacra petaloid aborally, ambulacral plates beyond petals with single pores; phyllodes widened adorally, with an inner and outer series of pores; buccal pores present, opening at the edge of the peristome well; bourrelets; basicoronal plates short, specialized perioral spines and tubercles confined to vertical walled entrance to peristome; periproct flush, inframarginal, ovate; narrow naked granular zone in interambulacrum 5.
Range	Cretaceous (Cenomanian) to Recent.
Remarks	Included in this family are a few forms that have sunken phyllodes, which result in non-projecting 'pseudobourrelets'. These are not true bourrelets as they incorporate post-basicoronal plates. Close to Cassidulidae but immediately distinguished from that group by its inframarginal periproct. Gitolampadids are similar in phyllode structure but have a marginal, longitudinal periproct. Gray, J. E. 1851.
