Subfamily Faujasiinae Lambert, 1905, p. 13

Diagnosis

Faujasiidae with:

  • periproct small, marginal to inframarginal, flush;
  • narrow naked granular zone in interambulacrum 5.
Range
Upper Cretaceous (Cenomanian) to Eocene.
Remarks
Faujasiinae are distinguished from Stigmatopyginae on the position of the periproct. It seems likely, given their similar elongate basicoronal plate and strongly lanceolate petals, that pygurids are the primitive sister group to Faujasiinae. Pygurids can be immediately distinguished by their having double pores to ambulacral plates beneath the petals.
