Diagnostic Features
  • Test of modest size (70 mm diameter), probably elliptical and taller than wide. Interambulacral plates moderately thick with vertical sutures.
  • Apical disc unknown.
  • Ambulacra narrow, biserial throughout; ?weakly imbricate. All elements reaching both adradial and perradial suture. Pore-pairs large and centrally placed on plate, with little perradial zone developed.
  • Interambulacra with 5 or 6 columns of moderately thick hexagonal plates, with vertical sutures. No primary tubercles; but fine secondary granulation.
  • Peristome unknown.
  • Interambulacral and ambulacral plates with fine uniform spinules.
  • Lantern unknown.
Distribution
Bundenbach Slates, Lower Devonian, Germany.
Name gender masculine
Type
Porechinus porosus Dehm, 1961, p. 4, by original designation.

  • Only the type species.
Classification and/or Status

Stem group Echinoidea; Palaechinidae.

Monotypic

Remarks

Close to Palaechinus in form, differing from that genus primarily by having larger pore-pairs that are more or less central, with little perradial space. In Palaechinus the pore-pairs are distinctly adradial and a modest perradial zone is found.
