Remarks | Cooke (1948) defined this subspecies as "more evenly rounded, less angular, and has shallower petals than typical Hemiaster elegans and its other subspecies. It is slightly longer than typical H. elegans and shorter than H. elegans subobesus. It is further distinguished from H. elegans washitae by its overhanging periproct." Adkins, W. S. 1920.
