Diagnostic Features
  • Test large and inflated; subglobular in profile.
  • Apical disc unknown; small.
  • Ambulacra straight and relatively wide. Plating trigeminate with pore-pairs strongly offset to form vertical bands, the inner two columns close together and separated from the outer column by a row of two or three granules. All pore-pairs similar.
  • Ambulacral plate compounding with central element largest and upper and lower elements reduced and not reaching the perradial suture. Primary tubercles small, and present on every third plate.
  • Interambulacral plates wider than tall; with distinct primary tubercle, similar to ambulacral tubercle in size. Interradial zone with naked zone adapically and sparse granulation elsewhere in type species.
  • On adradial side of interambulacral plate there are two secondary tubercles, almost as large as the primary, and these form horizontal rows on oral surface.
  • Primary interambulacral tubercles perforate and non-crenulate.
  • Peristome relatively small and with deep buccal notches.
  • Perignathic girdle, lantern and spines unknown.

Monophyletic.

Remarks

Similar to Echinopedina but differing primarily in ambulacral plate construction. Leiopedina has only one of the three elements in each triad reaching the perradial suture, whereas in Echinopedina two of the three elements extend to the perradial suture.
