Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) and its application to fossil dinoflagellate cysts

7. Conclusions and Outlook

CLSM proves to be a powerful new tool in the morphological analysis of fossil dinoflagellate cysts. It closes the gap between conventional light microscopy and SEM.

Its ease to use and the applicability to standard palynological slides will make CLSM a prime instrument in future studies on palynomorphs. Application of CLSM to embedded type material of earlier workers will possibly form the key to answering a multitude of morphological and systematical questions.
