Dear colleagues,
CERCAMS (Centre for Russian and Central EurAsian Mineral Studies) has been set up at the Natural History Museum (NHM) as a forum for geological studies focused on the former Soviet Union and adjacent territories. The NHM has long established links with the region through collaborative research and its geological collections.
CERCAMS-1, the inaugural workshop, took place during the 30th-31st May 2002, and attracted about 90 international participants from the academic and mining industry sectors. The resulting proceedings and contents of this meeting have since been published on CD.
The next workshop, CERCAMS-2, was a joint event with the Journal of Petroleum Geology and IGCP-473 to launch the newly published Atlas of Lithological-Paleogeographical, Structural, Palinspastic and Geoenvironmental Maps of Central Eurasia. This Atlas is the result of an international project coordinated by Dr Oleg Fedorenko (YUGGEO Almaty, Kazakhstan; http://www.yuggeo.nursat.kz/ ), one of our closest co-operation partners.
CERCAMS-2 was held on the last Thursday in November (28th) at the Natural History Museum in London (the invited keynote speaker Dr Fedorenko was supported through the British Airways Communities & Conservation Free Flights scheme).
