Linnaeus, sensu Haworth, 1811.
[(but included as heraclei Haworth, an unjustified emendation) [= Haemilis pastinacella Duponchel, 1838, in Godart & Duponchel, Hist. nat. Lépid. Papillons Fr. 11: 153]]
Nye & Fletcher (1991) included DEPRESSARIA in the subfamily OECOPHORIDAE: DEPRESSARIINAE, treated by Hodges, in Kristensen (1999) as a subfamily of ELACHISTIDAE.
Nye & Fletcher (1991) stated:-
Depressaria heraclei Haworth, 1811, ibidem : 505, was an unjustified emendation of Phalaena (Tortrix) heracliana Linnaeus, 1758, Syst. Nat. (Edn 10) 1: 532, but included by Haworth in Depressaria and designated by Curtis as * Heracleana Fabricius (first used as Pyralis * Heracleana Fabricius, 1775, Syst. Ent.: 655) an incorrect subsequent spelling. Bradley, 1966, Entomologist's Gaz. 17: 225, 226, designated a lectotype for P. heracliana Linnaeus and pointed out that P. heracliana Linnaeus sensu Haworth was a misidentification of a species that was later named as Haemilis pastinacella Duponchel, 1838. Under the Code (Edn 3), Article 70(b), the case of a misidentified type-species is so to be referred to the Commission to fix as the type-species whichever nomenclature". We suggest that the Commission be asked to designate as the type-species of Depressaria Haworth the nominal species actually involved, namely Haemilis pastinacella Duponchel, 1838.
