Hylonycta Sugi, 1979 and Molybdonycta Sugi, 1979 were both established to denote subgenera of Acronicta Ochsenheimer, 1816 and were both raised to generic level by Inoue, Sugi, Kuroko, Moriuti and Kawabe, 1982, Moths of Japan Vol. 2 : 346.
