Tools for access and analysis

The Virtual Biodiversity Research and Access Network for Taxonomy (ViBRANT) facilitates the mobilisation, sharing and publication of biodiversity data.

We aim to increase the number of people actively using e-infrastructures to share their biodiversity data.

ViBRANT provides:

  • Virtual research environment (Scratchpads) where users can safely store, share and manage their research information.
  • Analytical services for users to build identification keys and phylogenetic trees (OBOE).
  • A publication platform for users to easily compile biodiversity science manuscripts from their research database (Biodiversity Data Journal).
  • A technical platform supporting mediawiki installations used by a range of biodiversity research projects (BioWikiFarm).
  • Vocabulary management services via the GBIF Vocabulary Server.
  • A tool to manage and discover biodiversity literature (RefBank).
  • A central portal for users to find publicly accessible biodiversity research information and literature (Platform for Cybertaxonomy).
  • A suite of informatics tools designed to help GBIF participants to deploy, maintain and extend biodiversity data portals (GBIF Nodes Portal Toolkit).
  • A semantic mark-up tool for taxonomic literature (GoldenGate Editor).
  • Software to build taxonomic keys (Xper2).
  • Training for research communities to use tools and services.
  • A standards-compliant technical architecture sustainable by the biodiversity research community.
