UK taxonomic needs assessment

The Programme of Work of the Global Taxonomy Initiative requires countries to carry out country-based taxonomic needs assessments and to identify priorities for taxonomic research and capacity-building.

In 2004, the UK National Focal Point carried out a taxonomic needs assessment for the UK.

The purpose of the UK Taxonomic Needs Assessment was to identify the taxonomic information required for biodiversity conservation in the UK, including the Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.

It is hoped the results of the assessment will help to inform the priorities of taxonomic organisations in the UK, and of the wider biodiversity conservation community.

Initial reports on the needs assessment will be available in due course.
