Grasshoppers from Mount Everest

Several grasshoppers were collected above 14,000 feet on the famous ill-fated 1924 British Everest Expedition.

Two of these species were named Dysanema irvinei and Dysanema malloryi to commemorate George Mallory and Sandy Irvine who died whilst attempting to reach the summit.

The Museum has the type specimens of both.
