REX: A remotely operated vehicle

We run a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that explores and samples marine environments for research, education and public outreach.

REX (the Remotely operated vehicle for Education and eXploration) is a small remote-controlled submarine equipped with video and sampling capabilities, able to reach down to depths of 200m.

REX is used:

  • by the Museum for school groups and at public outreach events
  • by the University of Southampton for formal teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • in active research programmes focussing on UK marine habitats, deep coral reefs and chemically-rich ecosystems

If you're interested in using REX in your research, please contact Adrian Glover.
