Blue-crowned Parakeets, Aratinga acuticauda. There are probably four species of parakeet that have established populations in the south of England, probably descendants from accidental or deliberate releases of captive birds.

Library information and enquiries

The Entomology Library has now returned to South Kensington. Visitors are accommodated in the Reading Room.

Parts of the collection are stored off site and we therefore require an appointment and item references to be provided 48 hours in advance of your intended visit. See our enquiries page for contact information. To search our collections visit the Library catalogue.

The Entomology collection provides a comprehensive coverage of most aspects of entomology including insect taxonomy, nomenclature and world faunas. On a selective basis the collection also includes agricultural, medical and veterinary literature, insect physiology, the history of entomology and biographical material. The Library has responsibility for the Arachnid book collection, which includes spiders, millipedes, mites and ticks.
