Search the Archives and discover the amazing history of the Natural History Museum.

The online catalogue of the NHM Archives is for researchers, students, professionals and members of the public interested in the history, development and work of the Natural History Museum, London and the NHM at Tring. The collection comprises a wide range of material including photographs, administrative papers, scientific staff correspondence and papers, scientific and publication art work, posters, and architectural plans.

The Museum's organisational archive contains over 4 million unique records, which chart the history of the organisation, the building, its staff and scientific research, and exhibitions. New records are added to the catalogue on a regular basis, and development of the catalogue is ongoing.

In addition, the catalogue also contains the records of other affiliated archives, including the Tring Museum and Walter Rothschild Correspondence and some NHM Special Collections, including the Alfred Russel Wallace Family Papers. See ‘About the Archives’ for more detailed information about the collections and to explore further.
