Eduroam at the Museum

Eduroam allows its users to access the internet when visiting other organisations using their home institution username and password.

What is eduroam ?

Eduroam is an international federation of academic institutions allowing its users to access the internet using the same username and password as they would use at their home institution when visiting other organizations.

Are you planning to use eduroam at another institution ?

To use eduroam at another organisation you must ensure 

  • the institution is participating in eduroam 
  • your system is correctly configured and tested before your visit (or it may not be possible to connect at you destination)

Museum visitors

Eduroam in the Museum is

  • available to use in staff areas of the Museum where a wireless signal is available.
  • JANET Roaming Service Tier 2

Eduroam is not available in the Museum galleries and does not currently cover all staff areas. For further information on where wireless is available, contact the department of person you are visiting.

The Museum  is unable to provide technical support to non-NHM eduroam users visiting the Museum

How does eduroam work ?

Eduroam works by passing authentication requests and replies between a global hierarchy of authentication servers based on the realm part of the username.

Conditions of use

When using eduroam at another organisation you are bound by the Museum's  IT Conditions of Use the JANET acceptable use policy (AUP) and the AUP of the organisation you are visiting. 

Breach of AUP could result in disciplinary procedures.
