CERCAMS

CERCAMS serves as a centre for research into the geodynamics and metallogenesis of the former Soviet Union (FSU) and neighbouring territories, including China and Mongolia.

The region of Central Asia, Russia and adjacent territories contains vast mineral wealth. During Soviet times many organisations conducted their own research and exploration.

The aim of CERCAMS is to:

collate this data and share it with the academic community
develop state-of-the-art research in metallogenesis and geodynamics of the FSU and adjacent territories
serve as a communication node between academic research and mining industry

CERCAMS is based at the Natural History Museum because:

the Museum provides a neutral venue readily accessible to the international community
museum researchers are involved in a number of collaborative research projects across the region
the Museum has a successful track record in providing grant-funded training and analytical expertise to visiting researchers from the former Soviet Union

Extension of this work, with the active collaboration of academic institutes of the region, shall serve to enhance and supplement the existing knowledge and skills base of the region.

A byproduct of CERCAMS research is the creation of a variety of products. These include high quality GIS-layers and supporting data.
