About us

Scientists in the Museum's Economic and Environmental Earth Sciences Division (EEES) are investigating natural resources, mining, sustainability and environmental processes.

Our research focuses on:

  • mineralogy
  • processes involved in the formation of useful minerals in Earth’s crust
  • mineralogical aspects of sustainable processing

We study minerals in a spatial and temporal context to interpret the geological processes responsible for their formation, including:

  • magma cooling
  • hydrothermal circulation
  • low temperature processes
Environmental processes

We are developing:

  • new geological models for predicting deposit formation, to improve discovery efficiency
  • sustainable uses for raw materials and waste components
