Petrology cabinets

Like many other collections in the Museum, the Rock Collection has its origin in the Sloane material acquired in 1753. However, the first significant acquisitions specifically of rocks were the specimens from Vesuvius donated by Sir William Hamilton between 1767 and 1779.
