There is a large demand for access to the Museum's rock collections. Our material is of particular interest to igneous petrologists and other researchers because many specimens originate from distant or difficult-to-reach locations.
We are happy to make hand specimens and thin sections available for study, or to provide small off-cuts of rock for sectioning or chemical analysis.
Approximately 60 per cent of the collection has been catalogued in our mineralogy collection database.
Search for specimens by keyword, registration number, specimen type, locality or donor.
