Collections management and curation

The historical botany collections are mainly dispersed among the appropriate sectional herbaria. Some, including the Sloane Herbarium, are housed separately.

Special collections housed separately

Some historical collections containing precious items are currently housed in the Bernard Sunley Room – a high security, climate-controlled special collections area.

Included are several smaller collections and those of:

  • Sloane
  • Clifford
  • Clayton
  • Dale

Access is permitted under strict conditions.

The collections will shortly move to a similar new facility in the Darwin Centre, where they will be on display to the public. Access to study the collections will remain.

Material within the main sectional collections

With a few exceptions all other historical material, including Banks’ personal herbarium, is dispersed in the main collections within the appropriate sectional herbaria. For access to this material, please contact the appropriate curator.
