Glass models of the radiolarians Acinomma asteracanthion (left) and Dorataspis diodon (right), created in the 19th century by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka.
The Museum's radiolarian collection is small but contains many important specimens. It provides a valuable resource for dating rocks and studying oceans of the past.
The radiolarian collections contain:
historically important material collected in the late 1800s by Ernst Haeckel
an extensive radiolarian book and reprint collection donated by Bill Riedel
part of the Museum’s collection of Blaschka glass radiolarian models
